Is Today Fired?

It took a 30-minute overtime (announced on Twitter) to make the final choice, but it looks like Friday’s safe. Phew. Cue up the Simple Minds song, and let’s all rock out, okay?

Astralpunch in the movie production department remarked: “Friday’s awesome. My office is packed up. Movers come in one hour. Then I get to go home and drink beer before noon.”

Sabre in IT suggests, “Traffic on the way in was smooth, lunch was free, and beer thirty is just around the corner. I’m putting in for your promotion!”

However, it wasn’t all candy and puppies, as Sidewinder in the carpentry division noted: “Friday, while you have always been a wonderful member of the team, bringing the boss back to the shop to nitpick my work was unnecessary and the continuation of the heat wave is just plain mean.”

So, have a great weekend, everyone. The weekends have tenure and are untouchable, but we might start to add a “Good/Bad/Ugly” poll on Sundays if you think that’d be a good idea. Toss a comment up with ideas for what we can do about the weekends.

I know I’m not alone in waiting all week for Friday to come in. Friday breezes in like the golden quarterback, or the elegant prom queen, full of entitlement and brash overconfidence, as if they could do no wrong. Well, if this were an 80’s movie, chances are by the time it’s over, we’d see that Friday was really no greater than the other days, and that even lowly Monday can have the same dignity. Then Simple Minds would play a little song, and we’d all go home happy.

But this is not that 80’s movie, sadly. It’s the real world, where Friday is glorified and seen as savior for the rest of the week. Well, how’s it doing so far?
